Bored With The Bible?
You’re not the only one who struggles to maintain a daily habit of reading the Bible. Even someone as righteously disciplined as John Bunyan (17th-century author of The Pilgrim’s Progress) admitted he sometimes found the Scriptures “as dry as a stick.”
Yes, compared to the draw and demands of what we call “real life,” the Bible can often feel like yesterday’s news. But even a fairly serious Bible reader is surprised now and then by a story he didn’t remember-like a young David growing exasperated enough with Israel’s king that he swapped sides to fight for the Philistine enemy (1 Samuel 27-30). Like a defiant king of Judah scissoring off a slice at a time from the prophet Jeremiah’s message as it was being read to him, casually tossing each piece into the fire (Jeremiah 36). Like Paul’s nephew sneaking into the prison barracks to alert his uncle about a conspiracy on his life (Acts 23).
Plus, unlike any other book or old movie or TV documentary, the Bible has a way of speaking a current word that matches exactly what’s happening in your life. Not a week goes by-if you’re truly staying in the Word-that the Holy Spirit won’t snap your head back with a blinding flash of conviction, or steer your thinking on a certain decision, or remind you how deeply you are loved and forgiven.
Truly, it is the living Word of God-always “at work in you who believe” (1 Thessalonians 2:13).
Pray this prayer: Father, I need perseverance to stay in the Scriptures, especially when it’s the last thing I feel like doing. You are building more into me than I realize, and I don’t want to miss a day of it.

I have to say I’m not one to usually “write in” to a magazine or comment on a blog/posting. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the content of your site.
I’m sure that if had known you apart from the general clips I’ve seen from the media, I wouldn’t be so surprised. I was initially drawn to your site because of one of my passions (motocross). I myself ride and go to supercross/motocross events.
Above that I am a believer and follower of God (through Jesus) and my faith has woven itself into the fabric of my life. I feel compelled to achieve the things God has placed in my heart. Whether it is at my home church (as a youth pastor), or yet to be achieved goals like having my own AMA Motocross team.
The Bible is my foundation though I’m blessed to have books like “The Compound Effect” by Darren Hardy and inspirational men of principle as yourself. I’ve realized I’m smart enough to know that I don’t know it all and value my mentors and peers alike.
I’m thankful for this site and have to say I’ll be back often. Keep your eyes on the prize, I know that at age 31 I have more to do than time I have, then again I just want to get the most important things done first. Thanks again, Merry Christmas and God bless.
