Joe Gibbs Video: My Feelings on the 2010 Racing Season
Before I get into talking about my feelings about the end of the Sprint Cup season–lets talk about Motocross. We’re all excited about our team this year. Justin Brayton and Davi Milsaps will be our drivers and the season will be starting in the beginning of January in Anaheim. I hope you can watch us or come to the event if you live in California.
In our Nationwide Series–we couldn’t have asked for anything more. We had a ton of wins and completely dominated the Series and we wound up with the Owner’s Championship for the third year in a row. That’s a big win for everyone at Joe Gibbs Racing and we appreciate the drivers: Joey, Kyle, and Brad Coleman. It was definitely a world record-type of year for us.
Obviously, a big disappointment for us in Cup this year though. The last time I gave one of these updates I talked about the implications of us losing a championship. One of the reasons God does this is that He’s saying, “It isn’t time yet.” If He’s not saying, “It’s not time…” then He’s saying, “I have something better for you.” As you know, we went into the last race at Homestead with the lead and we ended up having some problems with our car. We spun out in the infield and we tore up the car underneath more so than we originally thought. We just weren’t that good and we end up losing the championship in the last race of the year. Nevertheless, it was a good year. We ended up with 11 wins which was the most of any team (some of those teams have four cars and we only have three). We led the most laps toward the end as well. I think we have a lot of things to look forward to.
Having said that, I’m asking myself what we can learn from this. We’ve been wrestling with that and I have already begun looking forward to next year and the improvements we can make. What I’ve found in pro sports is that the major disappointments can lead you to future victories. We started out 0-5 when I was a rookie coach with the Redskins and during that time we made a lot of personnel changes and tweaked our offense. Those struggles and the changes that resulted from them helped lead us to future Super Bowls. So, that’s the way we want to look at this: these struggles will hopefully lead us to future wins.

Great message, Joe. We all know a Sprint Cup is coming to you soon. Good things happen to good people.
