Joe Gibbs Video Update: The SuperBowl and Other Exciting Things
Thank you for joining me for this inspirational update. I appreciate everyone that tunes in.
I think we have something going on BIG this weekend. As we start off, I thought I might emphasize the Super Bowl coming up. It is interesting that I had this sitting around my office. This happens to be a game ball. In the NFL we give game balls to players if they put forth an extra effort and sometimes we give them to coaches. This is an Eagles game ball that I received for one of our victories.
I just want to invite everybody to our website – gameplanforlife.com. We have a lot of exciting things on there. As you know, we have changed the format. We intro a lot of small stories that you may be interested in. For this week we have some interesting Super Bowl party ideas. We have some stories that lead in to the 11 topics in Game Plan for Life. We have quotes that inspire. We have people that overcome things in their life. We have what we think is a way to coach you up on New Years resolutions – how you can stay with it. And, of course, we have some big questions on the Bible. I encourage every one to visit our website – particularly during Super Bowl kickoff week.
I always like to mention our racing. Right now we are in a quiet period with NASCAR although we have tested at Daytona and we think our cars are pretty fast. Our worry now is in drafting. It’s only two weeks until the Daytona 500. Our motocross team will be in San Diego this week. We have been going up and down the West Coast. Justin Brayton is doing extremely well and has won two of the qualifying events. Davi Millsaps has not been quiet as good but we are looking for Davi to pick things up. Our motocross team is at work and our NASCAR is extremely hard at work because there is no offseason. We are always working hard to improve things.
Here’s a little update on our ministry, Game Plan for Life. Our small group study which I have mentioned several times is now available on Amazon.com. You can get it at LifeWay stores of course or go to our website. Volume I covers the first six topics in Game Plan for Life which are introduced through a lot of racing and football video. I think it is extremely well done. LifeWay just came to our racing campus and shot the remaining five topics which they are editing now and that will be out shortly. If you have an interest in a group study, we would love for you to hook on to ours.
I’ll be speaking Super Bowl weekend to over 3,000 prisoners in Daytona. We’re excited about our ministry. As I have mentioned before, anywhere within a two hour flight from Charlotte we are open to coming to your city. We primarily have been coming in the mornings. We make it an easy invite for men and particularly unsaved men. We try and get roughly 100 tables hosts and put it on a grass roots level where that table hosts can invite unsaved men. We tell them they are not going to church. We hold them in a nice facility such as a hotel in that community with a free breakfast and a free book. I will sign the book if you want it and we will have you in and out in an hour and a half on a weekday morning.
I would like to leave you with something that has kind of jumped out at me. I have been reading in John 10 this week where Jesus talks about comparing God as our shepherd and you and I are the sheep. That has been revealing for me because I thought I knew the relationship between shepherd and sheep but it kind of went in depth. It was shocking for me. I have learned some different things about sheep. We know that sheep are not real smart and they are totally dependent on the shepherd as an example. I want to read from John 10:27-30. Listen to what God has to say about the sheep and the shepherd: My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. Once we make a commitment to Christ, no one can take us out of his hand. That was certainly encouraging to me. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one. I thought this was interesting reading and then it went into describing sheep. It lets people know that if they raise sheep and they get over the hill and lose sight, the sheep are gone. They are lost. It makes a point many times if something would have attacked the sheep that got away from the herd, the other sheep would just stand there and wait and end up also being attacked. It makes the point that sheep are totally dependent on the shepherd. Then it describes the shepherd and what he is willing to do for the sheep. It actually describes the shepherd in the old days sleeping across the gate at night to make sure none of the sheep would get out. It is well documented that the shepherd will not lose one sheep and they will go and search and find that lost sheep. They are totally dedicated to the sheep. It also says that the sheep listen to the voice of the shepherd. That comparison is a great one for us and it really jumped out at me because I know in my own life which I have shared with you my own testimony. I am not smart and many times I have made mistakes whether it is financial mistakes, occupational mistakes, health mistakes. These are well documented in Game Plan for Life. I know I am not the smartest guy out there so if we know that about ourselves and we know in this world that so many things can happen that we have no control over, we are really in a lot of ways like sheep – we are defenseless. I think back to Taylor, our grandson, which many of you prayed for. He contracted leukemia and there was no way I could control that. There are so many things we cannot control.
Are you listening to the shepherd and, of course, his voice is the one we need to be listening to. It’s in his Word, Bible study, constant prayer in talking to him and making sure we are not self dependent. So many things in this world will surprise us and we are not prepared for them. I look at it as a real lesson for me and I have got to make sure I am listening to my shepherd’s voice and we want to do that through his Word.
We would love to send you this New Testament Study Bible free of charge from gameplanforlife.com. We want to encourage you – knowing that we are defenseless and we are totally dependent, are we listening to God’s voice?
