5. How do I know God hears my prayers?
Each of us have known the feeling of staring up against a darkened sky and wondering if the words we are speaking to God are merely words we are speaking to ourselves. This is part of the walk of faith, where He stretches us in areas we would rather not be stretched, helping us learn to think the way spiritual people are designed to think.
Sight, sound, and touch are all very real senses, but they are not all that is available to a person forgiven of sin and promised a life forever with Him. Flying by instruments without being able to see the ground is how believers watch God do miracles-both in their circumstances as well as in themselves. We learn from the Bible, "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him" (1 John 5:14-15). Bold promise. Open to human distortion, since our will is not always in line with His. But it also tells us this: your God listens when you pray. In fact, He "knows what you need before you ask him" (Matthew 6:8). And those who are learning to trust what they know over what they feel are the ones who learn to experience Him in the most intimate way known to man.
