Made to Worship

The challenge of sharing Jesus with another person can be frightening and intimidating. But there's at least one hurdle that's already been jumped for you: people are naturally wired to worship.

Hanging on Every Word

We've watched enough television to know that carefully cloaked situations can be roused to quick action by one simple word: "Police!" We've seen many a team line up into its proper positions on the field by one spoken announcement: "Play ball!" Sure, anarchy can always overrule a teacher's appeal for "Quiet!"-and family pets can sometimes choose the worst times not to "Sit!" or "Stay!"-but there is power in words.

Can't Touch This

It could be on the shopping cart handle at the grocery store. It could be on the collection plate at church. It could be on the iced tea spoon at your favorite Mexican restaurant. It could be anywhere-on the spine of a library book, on the canister at the bank drive-up, on the cup holder at the movie theater.

Watch Me Dance

Maybe it came from having a dad who was never quite satisfied with the performance you put out. Maybe it came from a coach or teacher who would never acknowledge your best effort. Maybe it came from watching championship locker rooms on television, moments after the top prize of their sport had been claimed, only to hear a reporter ask if they thought this team could repeat again next year. C'mon, isn't ANYTHING good enough for you?!

Everything Old is New Again

You're not the only one who struggles to maintain a daily habit of reading the Bible. Even someone as righteously disciplined as John Bunyan (17th-century author of The Pilgrim's Progress) admitted he sometimes found the Scriptures "as dry as a stick."

When Our Plans Fall Short

There are two events I want to give you an update on.  The first is the Finish Line Festival.  This event will be held on Sunday, May 23rd at 2:30pm in the afternoon.  This is going to be carnival-like atmosphere at the drag strip here in Charlotte.

City of Tomorrow

It's the feeling you get when you've been in your first real job about three weeks. Work life is your new routine, your new normal. You've got your own business card. People know you by name. You're getting the hang of this. Life is good.

First Thing

Hezekiah became king of Judah in the 700s BC at the age of 25, following his father Ahaz. His father had been a wicked king, worshiping every god known to man except the One who'd raised him to power. Trying to appease his idols, he sacrificed his own sons in the fire.

Assume the Position

There were lots of things we once just assumed. When a boy went off to college, we assumed he'd live in a dorm with only boys in it. When a plane took off from the airport, we assumed that all we had to worry about was the condition of the aircraft, not its passengers. And Jesus, speaking to an average crowd of his day, assumed that fathers "know how to give good gifts to [their] children" (Matthew 7:11).

Right now, we couldn't be happier here at Joe Gibbs Racing!  At the start of the season, Joey really got off to a good start and Kyle and Denny had wreck after wreck and were not performing very well.  Well, all of the sudden, that's all turned around.

Judgment Day

If there's one thing we learn from the Bible, it's that salvation is not something we can earn. God just gives it. Because of what Christ has already done on the cross, our penalty has been paid. Our forgiveness has been authorized. All we do is receive it by putting our faith in him.

Anger Management

Whether at work or at home or in some other setting, you know what it's like when someone gets mad, gets their feelings hurt, and accuses you of something you didn't do. Instead of coming to find out what really happened or to talk it out calmly, they start right in with the accusations.

How Does He Do That?

One of the reasons we like watching a NASCAR race, or a PGA major, or a world-class track and field event is because we enjoy wondering how people are able to perform with that kind of skill, at that kind of level. Who stands over an iron shot in the heavy rough and mashes it 200 yards, within a few feet of the pin? Who runs a marathon in a little more than two hours and survives to make it to the medal ceremony? Wow.

Take a Knee

Some football players, when they break away for a go-ahead score or cause a key third-down sack, want to be sure they get their full ESPN's worth-the dances, the struts, the jerky moves they've been saving up for just such an opportunity.
