Last month, our Executive Director, Renaldo Wynn, journeyed to the Holy Land with 50 other professional athletes. When asked about the trip, he described it as “life-changing.” He also mentioned that the experience was like “the Bible coming to life!”
Renaldo said that he loved every bit of the trip but that there were definitely a few moments that stood out to him the most. He had the opportunity to visit Capernaum, the city where Jesus met Peter while he and his brother were fishing. While here, Renaldo was struck by the fact that Jesus interacted and called regular folks. This is a great reminder to us that we don’t have to be some celebrity to be used by God but that he uses all kinds of people, even us to bring Him glory.
Another moment that was really powerful to him was when they visited the exact place that Jesus was crucified. There is a passage in the Bible that provides all of the minute details of the location. He said it was indescribable to be standing on that mountain, physically seeing all of the details the bible described, like the mountainside looking like a skull. Renaldo loved how the place Jesus was crucified spoke to Jesus’ character. It was humble just like Him. Nothing fancy at all. It reminded him of how Jesus came to serve rather than be served. “It increased my faith,” Renaldo said.
The last moment that was incredibly memorable was when he, along with others on the trip, got baptized in the Jordan River, where Jesus was baptized. He said all of these men felt the Lord pulling them to get baptized there and that it was just the most surreal experience.
He encourages everyone to go to the Holy Land. Renaldo mentioned how God used this trip to revive his faith. Maybe the same will be true for you!
