JOHN WELLS
HIP HOP ARTIST
John Wells, also known as The Tonic, is a hip hop artist who was part of the group, The Cross Movement. He has received multiple Dove awards, 3 Grammy nominations, and more for his work. John had a few roadblocks before releasing his first solo album. He was diagnosed with anxiety disorder, which resulted in him being in bed all day for weeks. Through 2 years of therapy, medicine, and counseling, he was able to overcome his struggle and move forward with the album. He learned how to think about things differently and how to combat perfectionism. He mentioned that this experience brought Him closer to the Lord and helped him to pursue what matters most in life.
In the video below, he talks about how The Cross Movement came to be. Their group was always about ministry from the beginning. He also talks about how the disappointment of not receiving a basketball scholarship led him to a lifestyle of drinking and drugs. After hearing a powerful sermon, he realized that he was a sinner in need of a Savior.
